Airtel Nigeria

The company known as Airtel Nigeria today was originally ECONET Wireless, which made history on August 5, 2001 by becoming the first telecoms operator to launch commercial GSM services in Nigeria.

Between that time and the present, the company has gone through a string of acquisitions and re-branding exercises. Here is the list of brand names it has operated as since 2001:

  1. ECONET Wireless Nigeria
  2. Vodacom Nigeria
  3. Vmobile Nigeria
  4. Celtel Nigeria
  5. Zain Nigeria
  6. Airtel Nigeria

As at September 2015, Airtel Nigeria had 31,134,625, making it the 3rd largest mobile network in the country.
